We are Excited to tell you about Two Exhibits!
PETER SCHUMANN/Bread + Puppet GIANT PAINTED BEDSHEETS EXHIBIT
Right Now! Through November 30, 2025.
Outdoor Exhibit - always open.
Camp Meade is hosting an incredible display of Peter Schumann’s giant painted bedsheets from the Bread + Puppet theater. Stop by and immerse yourself in this very special exhibit.
Peter Schumann is the co-founder and director of the Bread & Puppet Theater. Born in Silesia in 1934, he was a sculptor and dancer before moving to the United States in 1961. He and his wife, Elka Schumann, co-founded Bread & Puppet in New York City in 1963. The theater, named for its puppetry shows and freshly baked bread, is known for its creative, radical political puppetry. In 1970, Bread & Puppet Theater relocated to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, where the company still performs and remains one of the oldest, nonprofit, politically oriented theatre companies in the country. Schumann remains an incredibly prolific multi-disciplined artist producing hundreds of works each year, including paintings, dances, music, and writings.
