Planetary Art Institute: Mission

“Art and science are branches of the same tree” —-Albert Einstein

The Planetary Art Institute builds learning opportunities for all ages! Art inspires critical and creative thinking that takes risks and crosses boundaries with joy. Sciense informs each of us how the universe works for all of us: an ecology that connects us to otherness, the natural world, and ourselves.

We believe values should inform actions and that beliefs should be rooted in facts. The Planetary Art Institute supports educational activities that encourage inquisitive, diverse, and holistic thinking with humor and fun.

We develop schools, daycares, immersive environments, and creative experiences that nurture and expand the relationships on which we depend. In short, the Planetary Art Institute creates space for our community to grow mindful individuals and good neighbors.

THE VILLAGE GREEN

Camp Meade wants to be the place where we all want to hang out. The current businesses at Camp Meade are a nexus  of creative excellence in the food provider and artistic community worlds. Our desire is to continue on that path by inviting other food makers, artists and artisans who match our vision to join us as we grow.

The Green at Camp Meade is a gathering place for events and social congress of all kinds.  In this day and age of electronic and virtual connection  we need to have places that bring us all together as friends and neighbors in the age old traditions of town gatherings.  The importance of the communal lunch or dinner at town gatherings cannot be understated.

Located just off of exit 9 in Middlesex, Camp Meade sits on the banks of the Winooski River,
overlooking the Middlesex Hydroelectric dam and just upstream of the confluence with the Mad River.

First Nation people have lived in the Middlesex area for thousands of years. Middlesex was the first town settled by Europeans in Washington County and Thomas Meade was the first British settler in 1783.

Originally, Camp Meade was a historic Civilian Conservation Corps work camp in the 1930’s.
The 110 CCC Company, Veterans Contingent were known as the Monarchs of Middlesex. Many public works projects were built by these men and women, including the flood control projects of Waterbury dam and reservoir and Wrightsville dam and reservoir.
Camp Meade was a hot bed of creative activity then and still is to this day.

Presently the home to Red Hen Bakery and Café, The Local: A Wine & Beer Shop, Sally’s Second Act, Sam Lightner Glass Studio, and The Green, a concert venue and gathering space for all, Camp Meade is a place of sustenance for the body and the soul.

In June of 2018 Camp Meade started hosting “Events on The Green",
featuring free live concerts every Friday and Sunday evening throughout the entire summer season.
So bring a chair or blanket and enjoy some fresh food and cold beverages provided by local businesses while you enjoy the live music!

The Green at Camp Meade  is located behind Red Hen Bakery and is where these gatherings of social congress take place.
