Practice the mesmerizing art of glassmaking! In this week-long camp, students will hone their skills at glass fusing, sculpting, and blowing under the guidance of glass artist Sam Lightner in her on-site studio.

Glass fusing involves melting and slumping glass in the intense heat of a kiln to create art pieces and practical objects, combining colors and incorporating recycled materials to create beautiful and ecologically sound art. In glass sculpting, learn to twist and cut glass into flowers, feathers, worrystones, and more, layering molten glass and using tools to create a final piece. After learning the basics, students will have the opportunity to make cups and other blown objects, using breath to make functional art.

Financial assistance is available to help make this program accessible to all. For more information about assistance (or anything else), email us at hello@planetaryartinstitute.org.

About the Artist Teacher:

My name is Samantha Lightner and I run a glass gallery and teach glass classes. At Lightner Glass all are welcome to learn glassblowing and fusing. Glass has been a great creative outlet for me in my life and I love to share that with young artists. Glass is a mesmerizing medium, where every small change can affect the outcome of the piece - just like life! Some pieces break, some turn out different than expected, but the creative process itself helps to relieve stress, form connections, and build self-esteem, particularly for young people.
