Martin Luther King Day: Cardboard Craze + Theater Camp
Ages: 1ST through 7th Grade
Class Experience
The Day will start out with students free drawing on their own cardboard ‘canvas.’ Artist’s will be given prompts to loosen up and let their mark-making be led by times they have felt a sense of togetherness, peace and safety. Throughout the day their cardboard doodle will be transformed as they add and take away from their creation adding magazines, weaving, plants, fabric and different art mediums into the mix.
Additionally we will listen to excerpts of Martin Luther King’s speeches, including ‘I Have A Dream.’ Then students will create their own speech either working as a group or individually taking time to diversify their words with a thesaurus. Once their speech is completed the young artists will practice their oratory skills as they deliver the speech.
